The game gets the player started with a short tutorial that teaches the very basic game mechanics. At the end of the tutorial the player has the following major ressources at hand :

  • 10 emeralds, the game's premium currency
  • two free Inuit workers
  • 14 units of energy
  • 22.500 coins

By following a sequence of easy quests the player is able to load up on energy and learn the basic routine tasks of Klondike.

What to do and what not[]

  1. Especially during the energy build-up phase, up to level 8, do not initiate any tasks without being prompted to do so by a quest. Else you run into the danger of having to do some things twice and waste time and precious energy.
  2. You are given the chance to score 30 emeralds for free. This is a clever ploy by the game's makers. You actually do not pay a single cent, but you have to provide payment data like paypal or credit card details. That way you are all set-up for emerald purchases later on. Whether you do that task is up to you. Those 30 emeralds cost nothing and can come in handy at some point.
  3. Do not buy emeralds unless you are sure you want to. Those little green gems make just about everything easier, but can start a buying spree once you've tasted, just how easy they make things. My way of going about emeralds is this: I'm buying a small package of emeralds (10 Euros) once a month. That way I can support the makers of the game and the emeralds come in handy to get rid of those ugly pillars on Wind's Song.

The energy build-up phase[]

This section describes the optimal sequence of quests at the start. If you play your cards right, you should end up with over 300 energy points. A reminder: Do not harvest or clear anything just yet. Do not, under any circumstances collect any chicken nests. They are hard enough to find as it is in the uncleared area. Wait until the respective tasks comes in a quest.

Klondike Beginners[]

tasks
visit the game's official facebook page
visit the Klondike Beginners facebook page
payout
15 energy

This is pretty straight-forward. Just load the two pages from the links in the quest window and you're all set.

Fix The Sawmill[]

tasks
rebuild the sawmill
start chopping a tree
payout
10 energy
2.000 coins

The first task is already cleared because the sawmill was already rebuilt during the tutorial. Ideally you should start chopping away at the huge Sequioa next to the tent. At 90 pieces it takes almost an entire day to chop it down to the player's energy limit. Since you've got two Inuit at your disposal, it would be advisable to task the second one with reducing a large fir-tree.

Beginning Of The Navigation[]

tasks
create a tent in the barn
create a kerosine lamp in the barn
payout
50 porridge
30 energy
2 emeralds (achievement bonuses for building the lamp and the tent)

You will need to harvest the strawberries from the greenhouses to build the lamp. Do not touch the beans yet.

Getting Used To Work[]

tasks
harvest beans
milk cows
get changed
payout
8 fertilizer
10 energy
2.000 coins

Again, a pretty straightforward affair. Grab the already ripe beans and the cow should have one of two loads of milk ready by now. If not you might need to wait a few minutes. Then click your avatar and change the clothing a bit.

In The Garden[]

tasks
build 4 more garden beds
plant eight units of rye
payout
5 wires
10 energy

There are several things to pay attention to. First: Build the 4 garden beds, but don't plant any rye in it. Instead, prepare the two greenhouses and plant the rye there. Due to their 200% bonus, each greenhouse grows 4 units and can be planted with a single click, thus using only one unit of energy. This way you plant 8 units of rye using only two units of energy instead of eight. That's a 75% saving. By now you should be at level 2 with about 95 energy.

Loading[]

tasks
load the tent on the sled
load the kerosine lamp on the sled
payout
30 energy
10 times 10-energy comestible.

A New Day[]

tasks
find 2 units of stone
find 3 logs
payout
10 energy
1.000 coin

There's an easy way to collect those 2 units of stone with a benefit. There's a large rock next to the dog kennel. That one needs only two whacks to clear and you can loot a nice hide on top of it. If you hasve your two Inuit working in the sawmill, those three logs should come after a little while. The impatient player just whacks a tree three times, but that's a waste of precious energy.

Changing Into Clean Clothing[]

task
get changed
payout
10 fertilizer

Pretty straightforward. Should your rye be ripe by now, do not harvest it yet. Also, do not yet start the quest "Local Deals". Harvesting the rye at the right time can clear tasks in two quests and save energy.

Clearing Out Space[]

tasks
clear three shrubs of gras
sell three items of grass in the storage
clear two rocks completely.
payout
5.000 coins
5 wires
5 tiles

Save some energy on that one. Use shrubs that need only 2 whacks. If you are lucky enough, the cow might even have eaten one or two doen to size 1. The likeliest cadidates are near the wooden fence and the barn. For stones, use two size-4 ones. You'll find one near the dog sled and one near the barn. They also come with two small hides. By now you should have reached level 3, having around 140 energy and 44.000 coins.

Local deals[]

tasks
harvest three items of rye
harvest three items of wild strawberries
sell three gold nuggets from storage
payout
10 energy
5.000 coins
5 worms

Harvest the rye and collect the 10-fertilizer achievement bonus. Now, with the greenhouses free again, prepare one and plant strawberries in it. It's one more unit than needed, but saves two units of energy in contrast to ordinary garden beds. What kind of nugget you sell is not important. Either go with small ones to save the big payouts for later, or cash in like a boss. It's of no consequence this early in the game.

Porridge[]

task
put five units of porridge on the sled
payout
150 experience
Wind's Song expedition unlocked

After clearing this quest, unload the porridge again. It's just wasting precious cargo space. The dogs are fed before the journey.

My Home's Foundation[]

tasks
harvest 7 units of stone
buy and place the cabin
payout
150 experience
10 energy

For the stones, again find to size-4 or size-5 ones. That's at least one unit more than needed, but you get two small hides to loot for additional energy. By now you should have reached level 6 with at least 210 energy.

Extending The Farm[]

task
buy at least one chicken
payout
5 worms

One chick is sufficient for this.

Raising Chicks[]

tasks
feed chick
feed chick again
payout
150 experience
5 wires
25-piece bird feeder.

Wind's Song[]

tasks
go to Wind's Song
cut two shrubs of grass
feed the dogs 5 times
payout
1 emerald
30 energy
20 porridge

The last task is actually the first. The dogs are already "pre-fed" for an entire round-trip, but its okay to put in some more. Find two size-2 shrubs of grass to save energy. This should also lift some of the fog to reveal a treasure chest or two. Don't forget to bag those before returning.

Earnest Search[]

tasks
clear five more shrubs of grass at Wind's Song
load the grass onto the sled
payout
50.000 coin
50 energy

Select shrubs strategically close to the fog to reveal more treasures. Then bag everything and leg it back home for the payday.

Take Good Care[]

tasks
feed two chickens
find two chicken nests
payout
5 sequioa logs
5 gravel
10 energy

I hope you heeded my advice of not collecting any nests yet, because those two needed can be awfully difficult to find with so much of the territory yet uncleared. This quest concludes the energy build-up and if you played it along, you should by now have close to 300 energy. Enjoy it while it lasts, because you won't see such energylevels again unless you buy emeralds or hoard hides.

Where to go from here[]

The most efficient way to use those 300 energy units is to find each and every obstacle that's between 15 and 30 in size and whack it down to 15 or 16. That way they'll fit into the player's energy limit and can be picked off at the rate of one every 45 minutes.
